When people think of the word plastic, they typically think of packaging, or bags, or other foreign or fake objects. However, the etymology of the word plastic doesn’t have anything to do with materials, but rather has its roots in the Greek work “plastike”. The word “plastike” defines the action of modeling or sculpting, a fitting word indeed for the surgeon who’s expertise lies in the reshaping of those features of the human body which nature has given but the patient wishes to alter, or make whole again the body whose parts have been injured or taken away by unfortunate circumstance. A Plastic Surgeon is really a Plastike Surgeon.
