Recently there have been a number of articles in the press regarding labiaplasty and vaginal reconstruction. As board certified plastic surgeons, we look at labiaplasty, as a means for a woman to improve her appearance and feel more comfortable. Unfortunately, there have been some that have offered procedures that claim to revirginate a woman by reattaching the hymen or offer procedures for increased sexual pleasure through G-spot amplification. These procedures are gross misrepresentations of labiaplasty.
Sadly, the negative press around this procedure can cause prospective patients to not consider a procedure because it is not medically necessary. Plastic surgery continues to be a […]
[primary_practice] (ECA Plastic Surgery) is pleased to announce the availability of a new surgical procedure, the Vascularized Lymph Node Transfer (VLNT), for patients who are suffering from Secondary Lymphedema and are appropriate surgical candidates.
Lymphedema is a condition that can be caused by different treatments for breast cancer. For example, when lymphatic vessels are disrupted by surgery or radiation therapy, fluid normally drained by these vessels accumulates, and can lead to increased pressure and inflammation in the affected arm. Over time, this can produce scar tissue, which compresses nerves and vessels, usually in the area of the armpit, and results in pain, numbness, […]
Over the last few years, plastic surgery for men has become increasingly acceptable. In 2011, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, over 800,000 men underwent cosmetic surgery. According to the 2011 study, the top 5 surgical procedures for men are liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid lifts, male breast surgery and face lifts. These do not include non-surgical procedures such as BoTox, which are also quite common in men and require minimal down time.
While cosmetic surgery is much more common in women, the reasons for choosing plastic surgery are invariably the same for men. Men are under the same pressures to look more youthful […]
One of the challenges facing any plastic surgery practice is the number of plastic surgery myths that can be perpetuated via word of mouth
MYTH: Only one plastic surgery procedure can be done at a time.
FACT: A number of plastic surgeries can be combined not only to get more procedures done at once, but also to use multiple procedures to get the patient’s desired appearance. An example of combining procedures would be combining a Breast Augmentation with a Tummy Tuck.
MYTH: Plastic Surgery requires general anesthesia
FACT: There a number of procedures that are performed with local anaesthesia or no anesthesia at all.
MYTH: Breast Augmentation is […]
Many plastic surgery procedures are expensive, but you can have plastic surgery under $1,000 that can meet the expectations of the patient to obtain a more youthful appearance.
BOTOX treatments – BOTOX treatments are well known plastic surgery procedures than can remove fine lines and deep brow furrows around the face.
Chemical Peels – A chemical peel or dermabrasion can help remove acne scars, smooth out wrinkles and reduce the appearance of surgical scars
Lip Augmentation – By injecting fillers such as restylane and juvederm into the lips, the lips can appear fuller and reduce fine lines around the mouth.
Laser Hair Removal – […]
With any new procedure in medicine, there are number of myths that sometimes percolate on the Internet or in the media.
MYTH: DIEP Flap Surgery is experimental
FACT: DIEP Flap surgery is not experimental. The reason people consider it experimental is very few plastic surgeons are fully trained in the DIEP Flap procedure
MYTH: If you had prior abdominal surgery, you are not a candidate for the DIEP Flap procedure
FACT: Most patients who had abdominal surgery such as C-sections or tummy tucks can still have DIEP Flap surgery. Some patients may have damaged blood vessels from prior procedures that would effect a DIEP Flap procedure […]
Whenever we perform a breast procedure, which could be a breast augmentation, reduction, or lift, we typically require our patients to wear a surgical bra while they recover from their surgery.
A surgical bra is one that is typically made out of high quality fabrics with no dye, wires, or excessive trim. The typical surgical bra will provide 24×7 support to the breasts as the tissues recover, and in some instances, light compression. The bra’s design allows it to be worn all day with comfort. Your plastic surgeon will give you specifics for your type of breast procedure on which type, […]
Breast augmentation recovery, like most surgeries, begins before the procedure. Prospective patients should be in good health and will undergo a thorough history and physical with the surgeon prior to the procedure. Further, if you are planning to lose a significant amount of weight, it is desirable to lose the weight prior to a breast augmentation procedure. These, among others, are considerations discussed during a typical consultation with a Plastic Surgeon.
The typical breast augmentation procedure is performed within a 1-2 hour period, commonly under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Once you are fully recovered from the effects of […]

A breast implant surgery also known as an augmentation mammaplasty is a procedure used to enhance one’s own breasts or reconstruct absent or asymmetric breasts. Breast implant surgery is performed by inserting a silicone or saline implant into the breast, either under the breast tissue, or under the chest wall muscle known as the pectoralis major. The size of the implant is determined based on your physical stature, your current breasts and the goals you have after the surgery – i.e. you want everyone to notice, you want only good friends to notice, you want it to look as natural […]
