Conveniently Located to Serve Hoboken, Ridgewood, Livingston, Pompton Plains, and Manhattan/NYC

Among the most visible signs of aging, wrinkles have a reputation for being difficult to eliminate, as though they are somehow chiseled into your face. Thanks to modern wrinkle treatments, that’s no longer the case. Injectables such as Botox, Radiesse, and Juvederm have the ability—via different mechanisms—to target and virtually erase those wrinkles and leave you with a more youthful looking complexion. There are special considerations when treating men with injectables, and the plastic surgeons at East Coast Advanced Plastic Surgery are well versed in those considerations, using their experience and expertise to deliver highly satisfying treatments.

What Are Injectables for Men? How is Botox for Men Different?

Men are being drawn to Botox injections in ever-growing numbers. The simple fact of the matter is that, contrary to popular stereotypes, there is significant pressure on men to continue looking young—and therefore, there’s a great feeling in presenting a youthful-looking appearance. Injectables are slightly different from most other procedures offered at East Coast Advanced Plastic Surgery in that there is a wide range of products offered, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Some of the injectables offered at ECAPS include the following:

Botox: Many facial wrinkles are caused by tensed muscle structures beneath the skin. This is especially true of the deeper wrinkles that tend to increase with stress and aging. Botox works by targeting these muscle groups. By injecting very small amounts of purified (and non-dangerous) botulinum toxin, the plastic surgeons at East Coast Advanced Plastic Surgery can paralyze the tensed muscle, causing the wrinkle to release and making your face look more youthful and confident as a result. Botox usually lasts 3-6 months, so if you enjoy your wrinkle-free appearance, you will need to schedule further appointments to maintain your results.

Juvederm: The other side of a youthful appearance is the overall condition of your skin. Juvederm is a dermal filler that places an emphasis on your skin tone, in order to give you a more natural youthful look. The results of Juvederm generally last between 6-12 months, a happy medium between Botox and Artefill.

Bolletero: Among the newest to the dermal filler family, Belletero has found quite a niche for itself combating dark circles under the eyes. Often, especially as we age, these circles are no longer created by lack of sleep or exhaustion, but rather the basic topography of your face. However, these dark circles can still make you look tired, and many patients express displeasure at the constant questions about sleep. Bolletero fills the area with a dermal filler that looks and feels natural. The result is that you look younger and well rested.

Voluma: Manufactured by dermal filler powerhouse Juvederm, Voluma is a premiere volume-filling product. It is FDA approved to counteract aging-related loss of volume in your tissues. Voluma itself is specially formulated to replace lost volume in the cheek area—an area of the face often targeted by men—in a way that looks natural and youthful. Results can typically last up to two years, making Voluma one of the longer lasting dermal fillers available.

Artefill: While some wrinkles are caused by muscle contraction, others are caused by a simple lack of elasticity in the skin, a natural effect of the aging process. Like a balloon half full of air, the wrinkles can be mitigated with an increase in volume beneath the tissue. Artefill is a class of injectable known as a dermal filler, which, essentially, fills the volume beneath the tissue to create a smoother, more youthful looking surface. While most dermal fillers last only a few months, Artefill is designed to last for a number of years, so it’s an excellent choice if you’re looking for a long-term solution.

Radiesse: By focusing on filling volume, Radiesse acts as a kind of a support beneath the skin, mimicking the structure of your natural collagen. Radiesse also encourages your body to produce even more of that natural collagen, creating a strong structure in place as—over time—the Radiesse gel itself is slowly absorbed back into your body. The results of these treatments have been shown to last around a year, which is longer than many other fillers. Additionally, Radiesse is FDA approved for use with topical numbing agent lidocaine, so injections themselves won’t produce as much discomfort.

Am I a Good Candidate for Injectables for Men?

Because all injectables have unique strengths and weaknesses, it’s vital that you discuss your desired results with your ECAPS plastic surgeon. When discussing your desired results, your plastic surgeon may take the following into consideration:

  • You do not desire permanent results
  • You do not wish to undergo a surgical procedure
  • You’re interested in immediate results without a long recovery
  • You are generally healthy and able to undergo these treatments
  • You desire modest mitigation of certain wrinkled areas on your face or neck

While injectables consist of generally non-invasive procedures, it is still important that you arrive at your consultation prepared to discuss a detailed medical history, as this will have a bearing on your candidacy for the procedures. During your consultation, the plastic surgeons at ECAPS will discuss with you how best to achieve your desired results.

Special Considerations for Injectables for Men

As with any medical procedure, there are special considerations and deliberations to account for when choosing an injectable treatment or option. While these procedures are generally minor, they must still be taken seriously to ensure the desired results.

  • Medical Conditions: If you have serious underlying medical conditions, you must be sure to discuss these with your plastic surgeon at the time of your consultation. This is also true of allergies.
  • Facial Hair: For the most efficient and effective targeting possible, it is recommended that you shave any facial hair that may obstruct the vision of your plastic surgeon or hide the relationships between wrinkles on your face.

Procedure and Recovery

For most of New Jersey Botox for men patients, the procedure can be accomplished over a lunch hour. This is also true with most other injectables. Generally, no anesthesia is required, though topical numbing agents can be used to increase the comfort of patients. Recovery is also generally uncomplicated and in most cases patients can resume work almost immediately. Some redness may persist for a couple of days, but this generally subsides soon after the initial procedure.

For men, injectables are an easy and quick way to regain a little of the confidence that comes with a youthful experience, and as such, are popular before large meetings, job interviews, or even, simply, on a consistent basis. Botox, especially, has proven to have a large male audience, largely because of the effectiveness of its results.
