Ideal Candidates for Gender Affirmation Procedure
Patients who have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and have already socially transitioned are excellent candidates for gender affirmation procedures. We follow all guidelines from the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH). Ideal candidates for these surgical procedures are in good overall health since pre-existing physical health conditions can increase the chance of complications from surgery. Patients who are non-smokers or who are willing to quit tobacco use well in advance of their chosen procedure are good candidates for gender affirmation surgeries. Smoking has a negative effect on skin health and can lead to complications and a prolonged healing period.
