At ECAPS, our mission is to provide safe, respectful and individualized approach to surgical care of transgender and gender non-conforming people. Our group of highly skilled and compassionate microsurgeons are dedicated to this patient population.
Under the lead of world-recognized leader in transgender care, Dr. Jonathan Keith MD FACS, our team of health professionals unite in one goal of delivering superlative outcomes in gender affirmation.
Patients who have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and have already socially transitioned are excellent candidates for gender affirmation procedures.
Ideal candidates for these surgical procedures are in good overall health, since pre-existing physical health conditions can increase the chance of complications from surgery.
Patients who are non-smokers or are willing to quit well in advance of their chosen procedure are good candidates for gender affirmation surgeries. Smoking has a negative effect on skin health and can lead to complications and a prolonged healing period.
HEALING AFTER YOUR GENDER AFFIRMATION PROCEDURE
Once your gender affirmation procedure is complete and you are cleared to return home, the recovery and healing process will begin. During recovery, it is vital to closely follow Dr. Keith’s post-surgical care directions. This will ensure quality results, minimized chance of complications, and the shortest-possible healing period.
As part of the recovery process, you will need to take good care of incisions to avoid infection. Do not take part in any physically taxing activities such as sports or heavy exercise. Post-surgical bruising and swelling are common but only temporary, and cold compresses can help in resolving these issues.
You will return for follow-up visits so that Dr. Keith can remove surgical sutures. During these appointments, Dr. Keith will ensure that healing is progressing without complications.
